How Can It Be So Difficult To Sell Search Engine Optimization Services To Most Businesses?
Pay Per Click promotion has taken off massively and is adopted most of the companies who are using some type of Online Marketing procedure. However search engine optimization falls far behind in it’s popularity and proves quite tricky to sell for the businesses providing this cost effective service. Why is this so?
The simplicity with which a company can begin a pay per click campaign is obvious. Without much knowledge it can be carried out internally and of course quickly halted if the results are not achieved. It is considered most like the comfortable marketing processes of yesterday, where an ad was placed in a publication or on a billboard and so it is immediately appealing to business owners and marketing staff. Although the first attempts at pay per click might not always be very successful the company can quickly realise this and can alter their campaign themselves. Often though they will conclude that some professional advice may be beneficial, but the key fact here is that they already believe in the process, as they have been able to dabble. This means it is much less of ambiguous than search engine optimization and they are willing to invest as they have probably seen some returns.
The whole area surrounding Search Engine Placement in the organic arena is a lot less simple. The process of optimizing this listing is a more composite one and also one that is less likely to be understood by business owners. This immediately puts a barrier in the way of selling the service. It also means that online marketing firms selling both services are liable to take the easiest option and stick with the pay per click method rather than pushing the less acceptable search engine optimization product.
Another down side which is highlighted by the quickness of the pay per click campaigns is the length of time that it will take a Website Optimization Company to actually provide results. Although when the ideal page one listing is reached it will provide much more interest than the pay per click process and will cost a lot less at maintenance level, it will take at least a month or two to achieve the position. And of course there is a larger cost associated with the start up meaning that the business must have a large amount of trust in the business providing the search engine optimization services.
Added to this is the vagueness of the process, how long will it take to attain a good enough search engine placement position? When it is achieved, how many additional hits will that produce, what will be the overall cost? All these questions added together do make opting for search engine optimization services a tricky one. Perhaps the organisations providing these services need to take a leaf out of the pay per click book and be much more explicit about the results. Although this is hard there are stats available now that show that 78% of searchers go for organic listings as opposed to paid adverts. Also the lower medium to long term costs need to be emphasised as well. If search engine optimization companies can offer 78% more traffic for a reduced outlay in the medium to long term, without doubt this would tempt even the most old fashioned of business owners.
