Time Management Tips That Work!

Everybody has “those days” when you feel unproductive. Sometimes we feel as if we are running around chasing our tails getting nothing done. This usually happens because we have poor time management skills. Fortunately, this does not need to be a permanent issue. We can each reassess our habits and time management skills. You simply need to be willing to work at it. You should be aware of the different methods of managing your time. It might take you a little while to figure out what methods are going to work for you that maybe didn’t work for someone else because we all have our preferences. Here are some hints to get you started.

Write down all of your goals. You can do this on the computer if you want but paper and pen is best. Having this list makes it possible for you to look at it from anywhere if you feel like your focus is fading. This way you can get back on track even after a bout of daydreaming. Using pen and paper writing of your goals offers a more permanent feel than even a word document and they aren’t as likely to magically disappear. You can make these goals as big or small as you want. Take time out to write them down.

Everyone has an internal clock, and you should follow yours as much as you can. Some people are naturally more productive and focused in the evenings. Others find that early mornings are their best times of day. Then there are those who reach their peak sometime in the middle of the day.

Try to accommodate your own natural rhythm when you schedule your day. When you have to do something that requires sustained effort or creativity, try to do it when you have the most energy. Working in accord with your internal clock can make a big difference in your productivity. Since you’ll be obeying your natural inclinations, you will also feel better about your work!

Remember, you want to work as efficiently as possible, but you also want to do things properly. Don’t rush something just to get it done if it means that it won’t be done properly.

Even if it takes a little longer, make sure you do the job as well as you can. The best way to stay on schedule is to not underestimate how long tasks will take when you plan them. You should always allow for unexpected hindrances, so give yourself a little extra time for every task on your list. In this case, the worst that will happen is you won’t need the extra time, which is hardly a disaster, whereas the other way you risk not finishing something important.

Some Great Ideas For Finding Time In Your Daily Life

Our most precious resource is time. Without getting into a complex discussion about calendars and how we follow the lead set by the Romans and finalised by the Gregorian reform, we all have to comply with a limited availability and make the best out of what we have. The bottom line is that most of us end up chasing around in ever decreasing circles, trying to complete everything that we need to do within a short amount of time. We end up focusing on what really, really has to be done – normally what we need to do to earn income to pay our way, and we end up with little, if any time to spend on ourselves.

Sometimes we watch, green with envy, when we see others enjoying their pastimes and wonder how they manage it? Some people have learned how to become strategically and financially independent, having become masters of the art of time management and skilled at prioritisation and focus. You might not know that time management software could help you, as you begin to understand where all those minutes are actually going. In the meantime, try finding time for yourself by being creative.

1. Make exercise a priority. There’s no point in trying to deny it, each one of us needs to exercise several times a week, if not daily. This is especially important if you have a sedentary job, or sit at an office desk. Make sure that you do not sleep more than eight hours a night as this is all that we need and consider setting your hated alarm clock a little bit earlier in the morning, so you get an additional 30 minutes for that exercise. Just see how much more invigorated you feel and how you have plenty of additional focus to help your day go by.

2. Treat yourself to a scheduled event. If you really don’t look after yourself and focus on “number one”, you will be in trouble and as such you should set up a monthly treat, a spa treatment, a round of golf, a visit to the beach, or something really special. Make it a priority and an appointment that cannot be broken.

3. Leave work where it should be. Even though you may be absolutely swamped with work and often stay late on a regular basis, as you find you just have to do this to get by, you should make sure that on at least a couple of days per week you leave on time, whatever may be holding you back.

4. Politely turn down the request of acquaintances, family or friends who want to spend valuable time with you, as you need this for personal rejuvenation. Set aside at least one evening per week for “me” time and use it to do what really turns you on, without distraction.

You can find this time by allocating time that you would have spent elsewhere as a consequence of reallocation and priority setting. Now, when it comes to being much more effective during all those other periods of time, look to time tracking software to see how it could help you.
